Legendary singer Udit Narayan has found himself at the center of controversy after several videos surfaced online showing him kissing a female fan during a live performance. The clips, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage, with many social media users criticizing the singer’s actions.
Responding to the backlash in an interview with Hindustan Times, Udit Narayan defended himself, saying that fan enthusiasm sometimes goes overboard. “Fans can be extremely passionate. We are decent people, and we don’t encourage such things. But some fans express their love this way. What’s the point of making a big deal out of it?” he said. He explained that during concerts, people in the crowd often try to shake hands or even kiss his hands as a way of showing admiration. “This is just fan craze, and it shouldn’t be given so much attention,” he added.
The viral videos show Udit Narayan performing the hit song Tip Tip Barsa Paani while a crowd of female fans gathers near the stage, excitedly taking selfies with him. However, his interaction with one fan in particular raised eyebrows, leading to a wave of criticism.
Many social media users were shocked and disappointed. One person commented, “Tell me this is AI… please! This is beyond disgusting.” Another wrote, “A singer of his stature should be mindful of his actions in public.” Some fans even questioned the authenticity of the footage, with one saying, “If this is real, it’s shameful and ruins his legacy.”
Despite the controversy, Udit Narayan remains one of India’s most celebrated playback singers. With a career spanning decades, he has sung in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and Telugu, and delivered hits in films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Rangeela, Dhadkan, Lagaan, Devdas, and Veer-Zaara.
