New Delhi: The newly elected Chief Minister of Delhi will take the oath of office in a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. The event, set to begin at 4:30 PM, will be attended by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, ministers, allies, and prominent guests, marking the party’s return to power in the national capital after 26 years.
Celebratory Event with Cultural Program
Ahead of the swearing-in, a vibrant cultural program will take place, featuring a performance by renowned singer Kailash Kher. The event aims to celebrate the historic electoral victory of the BJP in Delhi.
High-Profile Attendees and Guests
The ceremony will witness the presence of Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from 20 states, along with diplomats from major countries. Additionally, BJP leaders, workers from other states who contributed to the election campaign, and over 50 film stars and industrialists are expected to attend.
Farmers, beneficiaries of central government schemes—including the Laadli Sisters initiative—and members of the public from Delhi have also been invited to the event. The spiritual community will be represented by notable figures such as Baba Ramdev, Swami Chidananda, and Baba Bageshwar Dhirendra Shastri.

Suspense Over Chief Minister Selection
While anticipation is high, the official announcement regarding the new Chief Minister has not yet been made. The decision was initially delayed due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s international visits to France and the United States. Even after his return, discussions are ongoing, with sources indicating that a final decision is imminent.
Parvesh Verma, son of former Chief Minister Saheb Singh Verma, is widely considered the frontrunner for the role. However, sources suggest that the list of potential candidates includes approximately 15 names, including those being considered for cabinet positions and the Assembly Speaker role. A total of nine individuals will be selected, with Delhi set to have eight ministers alongside the Chief Minister.
BJP’s Resounding Victory in Delhi Elections
In the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP secured a commanding win, claiming 48 out of 70 seats. This marked a significant shift from the previous term, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had held 62 seats. AAP’s decline to 22 seats followed allegations of corruption against its leaders, including then-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia, both of whom faced legal proceedings.
Key Factors Behind AAP’s Decline
The election outcome was influenced by multiple controversies surrounding AAP, including the alleged liquor policy scam and the “Sheesh Mahal” controversy, where an expensive Rs 33.6 crore renovation of the Chief Minister’s official residence drew widespread criticism. These issues contributed to AAP losing favor with voters, despite its governance track record over the past decade.
