Las Vegas, NV – A late-night shootout in the east Las Vegas Valley has left two men hospitalized and facing serious charges after a confrontation in what police described as a “bad gang area.”
The shooting unfolded on February 17 around 10 p.m. near Karen Avenue and McLeod Drive. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon and later stopped a speeding gray Chevrolet Silverado with Arizona plates heading toward a hospital.
Inside the vehicle, officers found Reginaldo Zambrano suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Four other passengers in the truck gave conflicting accounts, but police determined they had been drinking near the crime scene before the shooting began.
Deadly Confrontation
According to police reports, Zambrano and another man had stepped out of the vehicle when they were approached by an armed suspect, later identified as Damian Elizondo. Witnesses said Elizondo, dressed in black with a bandana over his face, aggressively confronted them before opening fire.
Zambrano returned fire but was hit. The group then fled the scene in the Silverado.
A woman involved in the incident later told police that she had called Elizondo for help after feeling unsafe in the area, claiming two men had been watching her. She said she heard gunfire but could not see what happened due to the darkness. Elizondo, wounded in his hand and legs, allegedly told her to hide his gun before police arrived.
