A 74-year-old man from Michigan, John Bromley, is facing serious charges after allegedly abusing his wife and pretending to be a state trooper to try to enter a morgue to see his deceased wife.
In June 2024, Michigan State Police received a call about two people living illegally in a cabin. When they arrived, they found Bromley and his wife, a 68-year-old woman, who were homeless and had been staying in the cottage without permission. When the police spoke to the wife, they noticed she had severe bruises and was struggling to breathe. She told officers that she had been abused by her husband.
The woman was taken to two different hospitals for treatment. Sadly, she passed away a few days later. During the investigation, it was discovered that Bromley had pretended to be a state trooper in an attempt to gain access to the morgue where his wife’s body was kept. However, he was not allowed to see her.
Bromley was later arrested after a traffic stop in Oakland County for speeding. He was taken to Otsego County and booked into jail on February 9, 2025. During his court appearance, Bromley faced charges of aggravated domestic violence and first-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Authorities also announced that Bromley faces additional charges from Grand Traverse County for impersonating an officer. He is currently being held in jail with a $50,000 bond while he awaits further legal proceedings.
