U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order creating a new program providing free flights to undocumented immigrants wanting to voluntarily depart the country in an attempt to solve what he terms the increasing problem of illegal immigration. Called “Project Homecoming,” the initiative seeks to offer a route for illegal immigrants to leave the United States without undergoing the usual immigration detention or court processes.
Trump explained the start of what he called the “first-ever self-deportation program for illegal aliens” in a 90-second film uploaded on the official White House X account. The initiative is meant to let undocumented immigrants arrive at specified airports and get complimentary flights to any country of their choice—except the United States.
