Lakhs of devotees gathered at the iconic Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take a holy dip on Makar Sankranti, marking the first ‘Amrit Snan’ of Mahakumbh 2025. This massive spiritual event, steeped in tradition, saw people from all corners of India and beyond come together in celebration and prayer.
Makar Sankranti, a major Hindu festival, symbolizes the Sun’s transition to the Northern Hemisphere—a shift that is considered deeply auspicious. Taking a dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam during Mahakumbh is believed to cleanse one’s soul and bring spiritual blessings.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the participants through a heartfelt social media post, praising them for their devotion. “You have earned great virtue by taking the first Amrit Snan at the Triveni Sangam,” he said, highlighting the significance of this cherished tradition.
Mahakumbh, the largest religious gathering in India, is renowned for its vibrant energy and profound spiritual importance. A unique feature of this festival is the gathering of thousands of sadhus, saints, and mahants, including the enigmatic Naga Sadhus. These ascetics, known for covering their bodies in ash and sporting long, matted hair, add a mystical charm to the event.
As the first Amrit Snan sets the tone for the weeks ahead, Mahakumbh 2025 promises to be an unforgettable journey of faith and devotion for millions of pilgrims.
