Delhi Election Showdown Kejriwal vs Election Commission in Heated Clash

The battle for Delhi’s 2025 Assembly Elections is heating up, with former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal taking direct aim at the Election Commission of India (ECI). Kejriwal has accused the poll body of failing to act against alleged violations, sparking a strong response from election officials.Delhi Election Showdown Kejriwal vs Election Commission in Heated Clash

In a statement on Monday, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi dismissed these claims, revealing that more than 7,500 complaints had been registered through the C-Vigil app, with an impressive 99% of them already resolved. The election office also highlighted a major crackdown on illegal activities, with 2,780 FIRs filed since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was enforced. This number surpasses the 2,067 FIRs recorded in the 2020 elections, signaling stricter enforcement this time around.

Authorities have deployed a massive workforce to ensure fair and peaceful elections, including 220 paramilitary companies (over 16,000 personnel), 35,600 Delhi police officers, 19,000 Home Guards, and nearly 69,000 polling personnel. “Our officials are working tirelessly, yet some people are trying to create a negative atmosphere with baseless accusations,” the CEO’s office stated.

The commission also shared some eye-opening statistics on seizures aimed at preventing electoral malpractice. Authorities have confiscated cash, liquor, drugs, and valuables worth over ₹220 crore—almost four times the ₹57.5 crore seized in the 2020 elections. The largest chunk of this includes drugs worth ₹88 crore, followed by precious metals valued at over ₹81 crore and nearly ₹40 crore in cash.

Social media has also become a crucial tool for election officials, with over 115 complaints addressed online to counter any perception of bias or inaction. Despite criticism, the CEO’s office insists that their team—including district election officers, police officials, and returning officers—has been responding promptly and fairly to all concerns.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal continues to raise questions about the commission’s credibility. In a sharp remark on Sunday, he claimed that the “Election Commission ceases to exist in India anymore” and even compared it to the mythological character Kumbhakarna, who famously slept for six months at a time.

With tensions running high and election day approaching, all eyes are on how the situation unfolds in the national capital.
