Ten people in a bering air plane flying over Alaska vanished.
An massive search and rescue effort has been launched after a Bering Air flight carrying ten people vanished over Alaska. According to Alaska State Troopers, the commercial flight—which comprised nine passengers and one pilot—appeared off radar close to Nome on Friday, February 6, 2025.
Losing touch, the aircraft—identified as a Bering Air Caravan—was on route from Unalakleet to Nome. Ground crews are concentrating on the last known coordinates while search and rescue teams try to find the missing plane.
Difficult Search Parameters
Bad weather is making search operations more difficult; limited visibility and ice are stopping aviation support momentarily. Ground troops from Nome and White Mountain have therefore taken front stage in the search effort.
Danielle Sem, a representative of the tribal non-profit Kawerak, said that although airborne searches are not allowed right now, ground-based attempts are under progress.

The US Coast Guard is getting ready to fly a C-130 aircraft over the area; the Nome Volunteer Fire Department verified an active search effort. The US Air Force also has air support from Elmendorf Air Force Base mobilized.
Though officials believe adverse weather may have had a part, the reason of the disappearance is yet unknown. Authorities have advised people not to create autonomous search parties for security concerns.
