The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to return to power in Delhi after 27 years, as the latest trends in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Election Results show the party leading in 45 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 25 constituencies. The counting of votes is still underway, but the trends indicate a decisive shift in the capital’s political landscape.
BJP’s Strong Performance
With the BJP leading in a majority of seats, the party is set to form the next government in Delhi, ending AAP’s decade-long dominance. The saffron party’s campaign, centered around strong leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seems to have resonated with voters. Exit polls had already predicted a BJP victory, estimating around 40-45 seats.
Key Contests and Candidate Updates
Arvind Kejriwal is trailing BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh by over 1,100 votes, while Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji by over 3,000 votes. AAP’s Amanatullah Khan, however, maintains his lead over the BJP and AIMIM candidates in Okhla.
Mohan Singh Bisht, the sitting Karawal Nagar MLA, replaced by Kapil Mishra, has secured a lead of over 40,000 votes in Mustafabad. Tarvinder Singh Marwah is leading against former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
AAP Faces a Setback
For the AAP, which had dominated Delhi politics for the past two terms, this election appears to be a significant challenge. The party had aimed for a fourth term but struggled to cross the majority mark of 36. Kejriwal’s image took a hit due to corruption allegations, including the liquor policy scam, which social activist Anna Hazare pointed out as a key factor in AAP’s declining voter support.
Congress Struggles, INDIA Alliance Rift Widens
The Congress continues to struggle in Delhi, failing to make a significant impact. The decision of AAP and Congress to contest separately in Delhi has raised concerns within the opposition INDIA alliance. Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, criticized the rift within the alliance, suggesting it may have strengthened the BJP’s position.
PM Modi to Address BJP Workers
With the BJP on the verge of reclaiming Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address party workers at 7 pm, celebrating the party’s return to power in the national capital.
As vote counting continues, the final results will determine whether the BJP can secure a clear majority and how AAP plans to respond to its setback.
